Who Wears a Helmet When Skiing or Riding?
Since we’re now well into the season and the initial hype that seems to crop up every year about helmet laws being put through state legislatures has mellowed out. I was wondering how many of the Resort Marketing blog readers wear helmets and what their helmet wearing habits are. Please vote, and let me know if you have any specific thoughts you’d like to share about wearing helmets in the comments:
Personally, I’ve been wearing a ski helmet for perhaps the past 5 seasons or so and plan to keep using them, particularly since I want to set a good example for my 3 year old.

My family will ALWAYS wear helmets when skiing or boarding and here's why: http://sharonmostyn.com/2009/12/21/blizzard-2009-…
Very sobering story Sharon, but thankfully one with a happy ending, thanks for sharing and I hope to see you on the slopes out here in Utah sometime!
Always. Hat? What's a hat?
For the most part, two to three years ago, I began wearing a helmet on a consistent basis. Occasionally, I will wear a hat, headband, or nothing during spring skiing. However if I have made the conscious choice to ski without a helmet, I scale back on the terrain I choose to ski on to minimize the risk, considering I am a double black diamond and off-piste skier by nature.
haha, i really should wear a helmet when i snowboard, but I usually only stick to the greens and blues on the slops. i also like wearing silly hats too much! i actually compiled a good list of crazy fur hats that would be fun to wearing snowboarding on my site: http://thewantwardrobe.com/2011/03/07/get-rihanna… if you're a girl looking for a fun hat to wear, you should check it out!
I still have yet to wear a helmet while snowboard…. not that I am a safety rebel, I've just never needed it. I do realize I am challenging myself continually which can be more dangerous.
I'm more worried about random stuff happening, like hitting a stick with my snowboard at an inopportune time while in some thick trees, or getting hit by someone else. Helmet will come eventually.
I do feel that it should be up to the individual to choose to wear a helmet or not, but at this point, I’m actually more comfortable on the slopes with one than without – exactly like I wouldn’t head out on my mountain bike without a helmet either. The key thing, I think, is finding a helmet that is comfortable and fits you well. Thanks Martin!
